At 6am on Wednesday 8 November, a group from Granville Boys High School travelled up to The Rivers Secondary College - Richmond River High Campus in Lismore, New South Wales in the school bus with a trailer packed with barber chairs, mirrors and barber tools, robotics equipment, BBQs, and enough sausages, kafta, salad, Lebanese bread, hummus and garlic dip to feed the whole school community.
GBHS Barbershop mentor Charles Lomu and his team helped set up the Richmond River High Campus Barbershop at the school and taught local students the art of barbering. Head Teacher Innovation, Teaching and Learning and Robotics Coordinator Ms Donnelly and robotics students Mahmoud Amood, Abdulhamid Elnazer, and Maged Amood ran a two-day robotics workshop teaching the students skills in building, designing and coding robots with an emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.
The team from Sydney Youth Connect cooked a delicious Middle Eastern BBQ for all to enjoy. Richmond River High Campus was totally wiped out in the catastrophic floods last year. The school buildings were condemned with none of the school equipment salvageable. The school has been temporarily set up at another site and consists of around 50 demountable classrooms. It was wonderful to share our programs and the Granville Boys High School spirit to help support Richmond River High Campus.
The visit was beautifully captured by Charles Lomu in the video below.
