Sports

Granville Boys High School is proud of its rich and dynamic sporting culture. Our continued success in organised sporting events, grade, knockout teams and recreational activities highlight the passion and sporting ability of our students at GBHS. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports from individual, team and representative activities. Sports and Recreational activities offered include:

Integrated Sport – GBHS has introduced an integrated sport timetable to further enhance the participation and skill development of students. Year groups 7-10 have now been timetabled their own dedicated sport periods. This new sporting structure has allowed for better use of our equipment and facilities resulting in enhanced sporting sessions for our students. Integrated sports allows students to refine their skills and techniques in a variety of sports with each school term having a specific focus on core activities.

Grade Sport – GBHS will continue to enter grade sport teams in the Prospect Zone sporting competition. Grade sport is held during Terms 1-3, every Tuesday afternoon from week 3 onwards. Students have the opportunity to participate in a trial event for their chosen sport. Finalised teams will participate in a number of training sessions prior to competing against schools within the Prospect zone.

Term 1: Jnr/Snr OzTag, Jnr/Snr Basketball

Term 2: Jnr/Snr Soccer, Jnr/Snr Touch

Term3: Jnr/Snr OzTag, Jnr/Snr Basketball, Jnr/Senior Volleyball

Sporting Carnivals – GBHS school carnivals are always a feature event of the school calendar. We are excited to introduce improved structures for our Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals. As always, students that perform well at our school carnivals will be eligible to represent GBHS at the Zone and Regional levels. We look forward to our students achieving and performing to the best of their ability.

Knockout and Gala Day Teams – Annually, GBHS  enters a number of teams including basketball, AFL, soccer, rugby league, cricket and touch football into the Sydney West knockout competition and local Gala Days. These competitions are made available to all schools within the Sydney West Region and are generally structured as knockout competitions. Successful teams will continue to play against others until the final rounds were the winning teams will have the opportunity to represent their school, zone and state at the highest level.

Recess Competitions – The PDHPE staff have organised a number of mini sporting competitions for all students to participate in during their recess time. These sports include: Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Touch Football, Badminton, Volleyball and Cricket.
