Granville Boys hosts Girl Powered Workshop in Innovation Centre

Granville Boys hosts Girl Powered Workshop in Innovation Centre.

Granville Boys High School hosted a Girl Powered Workshop in late October at our brand new Innovation Centre, to help engage and inform female students from Auburn Girls High School and Birrong Girls High School about available STEM and robotics opportunities, in honour of the International Day of the Girl (11 October).

The event featured three female keynote guest speakers from AusDiagnostics - leading Australian manufacturer of in vitro diagnostics reagents and robotic systems for molecular-based syndromic testing. As first-hand examples of women in the STEM industry, Nathasha, Research Assistant, Molecular R&D, Lydia, Engineering Manfacture Technician, and Lisa, Marketing Coordinator, shared valuable words of advice and inspiration to the students.

They then led mixed teams of our own boys and girls from the guest schools, learning to utilise innovative ideas and skills to tackle world problems.

Girl Powered is a REC Foundation initiative presented by Google. This initiative is intended to bring all girl students who are interested together, to show them that they are welcome in the robotics community.
