Dear parents/carers,
While conducting proactive investigations to update the Department of Education’s asbestos register for Granville Boys High School, suspected asbestos containing material was found in the piping of Building F. The area was isolated and testing was conducted by an independent hygienist to confirm the exact nature of the material.
The material has been confirmed as bonded asbestos which means it is attached to other material such as cement or vinyl and cannot be crumbled by light pressure. Safety measures have been put in place to ensure there is no risk to students, staff or the local community. As a precaution, the area has been cordoned off and will remain out of bounds to students and staff.
Maintenance of the area is scheduled for Wednesday 11 November 2020 from 7am and is expected to be completed by end of the school day. Works include encapsulating the piping to prevent any possible access or future damage. Work will be completed in accordance with the Department of Education’s Asbestos Management Plan and SafeWork NSW regulations.
