Dear parents/carers,
During a proactive inspection to verify the presence and condition of asbestos containing material at Granville Boys High School, suspected asbestos containing material was found in 5 heaters.
Safety measures and monitoring have been put in place to ensure there is no risk to students, staff or the local community. As a precaution, the area has been cordoned off and will remain out of bounds to students and staff.
An independent occupational hygienist has recommended the material be removed by an accredited asbestos removal contractor.
The material is being removed today outside of school hours. The contractor will be wearing personal protective clothing such as coveralls, gloves and footwear which are a regulatory requirement.
This area will be remediated in accordance with the Department of Education’s Asbestos Management Plan andSafeWork NSW regulations. All work will be completed by licensed and accredited asbestos contractors, and monitored by occupational hygienists in strict accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
Testing will be completed to ensure the area has been fully remediated. The school will receive a clearance certificate before the area is open to students and staff.
