Selective and enrichment

Selective Stream

Granville Boys High School is a partially selective high school. Students gain placement the year 7 Selective stream by sitting the NSW Selective Schools test in year 6 and choosing Granville Boys as the school they want to attend. In the test, students will need to demonstrate high academic ability, as well as commitment and motivation to learning.

The school has high expectations of all students in the selective class and work of appropriate rigour and pace is provided to sustain their interest. The students are also expected to participate in extracurricular activities to develop their curiosity and creativity in a dynamic and intellectually rigorous environment that prepares them for the future. Our selective students receive the highest quality education in the best possible environment.

For students who wish to join the selective stream in years 8,9 or 10, they must apply to the school when the applications open. More information is available on https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7/what-are-selective-high-schools

The student will submit a folio with his application form and will be required to sit for a test at the school. A formal interview to discuss the test results and the folio will determine if the school will offer placement in the selective stream to the student.

 Placement in enrichment Class

The educational experiences of students at Granville Boys High School will result in the development of young men who are independent and responsible learners and leaders. The school is committed to recognizing and catering to students' different learning styles.

An enrichment class for the following year (Years 7,8, and 9) is formed to address the needs of gifted and talented students in our region who are currently in Year 6, 7, or 8. This is a school-based enrichment initiative and does not constitute entry to a government selective high school. The enrichment class is be supported, through a specific curriculum designed to extend and challenge students. Entry to this class will be via a placement test designed to identify gifted and talented students and provide a baseline profile of student achievement.

Applications generally open in late term 2 and forms will be available from the school or the school website for external applicants. Students already at Granville Boys will be able to collect an application form from their year adviser. Completed forms will be returned to the school and students will be informed of the details of the test by mail. Successful applicants will be notified of their placement in an Enrichment class through an offer letter.
