Inspire – High potential and gifted education

Granville Boys High School is a comprehensive and partially selective secondary school committed to promoting academic and personal excellence. At our school, we give the right support to help advanced or talented learners grow and do their best.
We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.

With dedicated executives, educators and innovative programs, we are Aiming for Excellence by cultivating lifelong learners equipped to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

Selective stream

Students gain placement in the Year 7 Selective stream by sitting the NSW Selective Schools test in Year 6, and choosing Granville Boys as the school they want to attend. In the test, students will need to demonstrate high academic ability, as well as commitment and motivation to learning.

The school has high expectations of all students in the Selective class, and work of appropriate rigour and pace is provided to sustain their interest.

The students are also expected to participate in extra-curricular activities to develop their curiosity and creativity in a dynamic and intellectually rigorous environment that prepares them for the future. Our selective students receive the highest quality education in the best possible environment.

Enrichment class

The educational experiences of students at Granville Boys High School will result in the development of young men who are independent and responsible learners and leaders. The school is committed to recognising and catering to students' different learning styles.

Enrichment classes for Years 7, 8 and 9 are formed to address the needs of gifted and talented students in our region who are currently in Year 6, 7, or 8.

This is a school-based enrichment initiative and does not constitute entry to a government selective high school. The Enrichment class is supported through a specific curriculum. designed to extend and challenge students.

Entry to this class will be via a placement test designed to identify gifted and talented students and provide a baseline profile of student achievement.

Applications generally open in late Term 2 and forms will be available from the school or the school website for external applicants.

Students already at the school will be able to collect an application form from their year adviser. Completed forms will be returned to the school and students will be informed of the details of the test by mail. Successful applicants will be notified of their placement in an Enrichment class through an offer letter.
